Album Update #2...

I suppose I have been giving updates in almost every post for the past while but this is the second "official" update, hence the title. Things have been going well since getting over the hurdle with the studio equipment. I set everything up on Thursday and spent most of the day Friday soundchecking so everything was ready to go yesterday. Considering how many times I have been through this process with the drums I wasn't too surprised when things flowed well and I got the drums for 5 songs played in. It was more than expected but I decided if I could do 5 in one day then that would be the goal for the next day (today) and then the drums would be finished. Things got off to a shaky start - probably because of the pressure I had put on myself - but once I forgot about all that and just played for the joy of it things began to fall into place and by the end of the session all of the drum tracks were finished. A very nice relief to finally have those in the can. Now for the rest!

I will start the bass lines tomorrow and considering how many times I have played those in it should not take long. The same pretty much goes for everything else except the vocals. I have not been singing and will have to warm up quite a bit before doing those. It will be a few weeks before I get to that stage anyway so I'll cross that proverbial bridge when I come to it. Vocal ideas are constantly popping in to my head and distracting me (a bit embarassing when it happens in the checkout line at the supermarket but who really cares. There are enough freaks in this neighbourhood that I don't really stick out too much ;-) and all of the pieces are falling into place. These songs are becoming something I never really thought possible a year ago. Feels pretty good!
