May Day....Mayday!!!

Once again it is May Day here, the "Day of the Workers" which is traditionally associated with demonstrations and clashes with the powers that be, in most cases the local police. To make things even more volatile, the night of April 30 here is "Walpurgisnacht" which is something like the equivalent of "Devil's Night" i.e. the night between Oct.30 and Oct.31. So, all put together this basically means the perfect excuse for testosterone-drunk adolescent males (although the girls do get invloved too sometimes) to run wild in the streets and wreak havoc for no particular reason and with no logical target for their aggressions.

I heard the police helicopters circling around last night and in the news today read about some minor incidents in some parts of the city. Basically just random vandalism and fights with the cops, some of whom got pretty badly injured.

Just a thought, but it might be interesting to see what could be achieved if this energy were targetted in some constructive way, even if a bit aggressive. Anyone remember the financial crisis and banking bigwigs that caused it??? Hmmm...I imagine those guys sitting high up in their ivory towers looking down on the rioters clashing with police on the streets and laughing. Just a thought...
