The Mission...

It occurred to me this week that every good project or enterprise tends to have some kind of goal or "mission statement" and there has been something bouncing around in my head for a while now that kind of qualifies as one. Until now, Fine Print Pariah's only goal was to create music and eventually get out there and perform that music live. This is all fine and good, but I think a more specific aim could be very motivating and that is why I have come up with the following mission statement:

Fine Print Pariah: Putting the "Alternative" back in "Alternative Rock"

Short, sweet and to the point and I think that anyone out there who has recently tried to find some real alternative rock will understand it.

I was recently much in need of something new to listen to, the old standards just weren't cutting it. I began searching around on the internet using "alternative rock" as a main search criteria and was really disappointed with what I found. Not to say that some of the music wasn't good, but it was definitely not what I consider
"alternative". In fact, I find it very difficult to tell the bands in this category apart these days. Are they all sharing one singer??? I'm sure there are plenty of really good bands out there that are doing some real alternative stuff but I'd be damned if I could find them. It seems that mainstream has co-opted the genre...yet again!

So Fine Print Pariah is going to raise the flag and hopefully create something truly alternative through diversity, a bit of experimentation without getting carried away, seriousness without self-righteousness. It's not exactly a lofty goal, but when I look around at what is (easily) available, it is clear that it is necessary.
